Moreno Lifts Comets to Victory in OT
Tonight the Hackensack Comets took on Indian Hills in the rematch of the season! The Comets fell to Indian hills the first time away after a tough heated game. However tonight the Comets were hungry for revenge. The Comets opened up the score with a goal by senior Michael Totaro. Indian Hills answered back 5 minutes later by scoring a goal due to sloppy Comet defending. In the second half Indian Hills took the lead with a header off a corner and crashed it into the back of the net. With ten minutes left in the second half Shayan Sharoudi bodied his way through the defense and chipped the goalie to tie up the game. The game was sent into overtime/golden goal. The first half of over time was scoreless. In the second half the Comets were awarded a corner kick. After a scramble in the box, sophomore Nelson Molina attempted a bicycle kick which hit off the post. However Steven Moreno managed to head in the rebound off the crossbar and crash the net, beating the Indian Hills keeper giving the Comets the necessary victory to beat Indian Hills. When asked how it felt to score the wining goal Moreno responded "It feels good, It feels like when you work hard you can achieve it and anythings possible when you work hard. When your ready and you want to play, like today that was the case I wanted to play. I just gave it all and I was there at the right moment." This win brings the Comets to a 4-8 record. I managed to ask Moreno if he thinks their record defines them as a team and he replied "Absolutely not, we took a slow chance and started off slow, we basically weren't ready however thats not an excuse. But we just have to work harder now." What do the comets need to do to keep the winning streak alive? "Give it all, give it all each game, have more communication, want the game, want the win, and thats it." Moreno's last comments were "Shout out to my whole team. I couldn't have done it without them!" The Comets will look to make a mark this Saturday when they face Saddle Brook in the opening round of the Bergen Cup. Stay tuned for updates and interviews as the Comets look to take the Bergen Cup!
